With a strong background in Economics that includes M.Phil and Ph.D in Economics from the University of Ghana, Dr. Adu Owusu Sarkodie is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics, University of Ghana. He has scholarly papers in Development Economics, Health Economics, and Public Finance published to his credit.
He is a product of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC). As part of his PhD programme, he received an internship from the United Nations University-World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) in Helsinki, Finland, as well as the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), Accra, Ghana. Dr. Sarkodie successfully completed the regional course on Macroeconomic Diagnostics organized by the IMF and WAIFEM in addition to the Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium course organized by the Bank of Ghana. Prior to this, he received intensive training on Amartya Sen’s Capability Approach at the University of Pavia, Italy, and the University of Geneva, Switzerland. He was the proud recipient of the BECHS-Africa Postdoctoral Fellowship at American University in Cairo, Egypt.
Throughout his career, he has taught Microeconomic Theory, Economy of Ghana, Economic Growth and Development, Industrial Economics, Managerial Economics, and Development Finance. From 2013 to date, he has been the Resource person to the visiting students from the California State University in the USA, and international students from other universities. He is also the resource person for the development of ECOWAS Regional Economic Outlook (EREO 2024 and EREO 2025).
Dr. Adu Owusu Sarkodie has been engaging the media (both local and international) on the National Budget Statements and Economic Policy, as well as other Economic issues. His hobbies are playing football and playing musical instruments.
